Geocache Description:

This CARW2012 cache will be published about 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 1, 2012. Please remember that caches CANNOT be hunted until 9:00 am on SATURDAY March 3, 2012. Should you hunt and find this cache prior, it will not count for the event, and FTF points are only valid starting 9:00 am on March 3, 2012.

This is one of the 12 "monkey series" caches I have hidden for CARW2012 and 7 of them are near the south portion of the River Loop Trail that goes around Fort Edmonton. This cache is hidden very close to the parking lot at Fort Edmonton. There are also a number of other caches hidden along the north portion of the trail so if you haven't found those yet then you can park at Fort Edmonton and walk the entire loop (in either direction) and find all of the caches and end up back at your car where you started. If you walk at a normal pace you should be able to find them all in about 2 hours. (Note: Monkeying Around is slightly out of the way and you will have to climb a steep hill to find that one and then come back down the hill before continuing along the trail.) I always prefer a trail where I don't have to double-back the same way that I went so I decided to add some caches to the south portion of the loop to make it more interesting for new cachers to the area to walk the entire loop. This cache container was an old Magic baking powder bottle covered in camo tape containing a log book, pencil and a few small items to trade and it is hidden in a spruce tree. (Please note that you cannot walk in a direct line between this cache and Monkey on your Back as there is a chain link fence separating them. To find Monkey on your Back after this one, go to the far west end of the parking lot and walk up the hill from there.)

** UPDATE *** July 2012 *** Mystery solved!! Sock Monkey has a neighbour!! After reading a few of the recent cache logs I was a little confused so I went to check on the cache and it was still in its hiding spot but I also found the John Janzen cache which is close by. Sock Monkey is glad to have company and now you can find 2 caches when you visit. So there is no confusion though, the John Janzen cache is in a glass jar on the ground and Sock Monkey is farther up the hill in a tree and it is a camoed plastic cylinder.
