The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down past the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.
Cave Cricket
If you go exploring any of the caves or even mineshafts in the area you can expect to see some Cave Crickets. Keep in mind though, they will likely be hanging off the ceiling above your head. Their hump backed bodies sport antennae and legs easily that are easily twice as long as their body. These long antennae and long legs serve an important purpose when you live in the dark, they rely heavily on their sense of touch. At times when food is scarce though, these extremely long appendages can serve another purpose. You see when your legs are this long, and you are really hungry, you can afford to nibble a little off the ends. They will eat their extremities in order to survive.
