The Cowichan Valley Trail will take you from Duncan through Lake Cowichan and down to the Kinsol Trestle following former CN and E&N railway lines. With many access points and 8 trestles, it's a beautiful trail to walk, jog or bike. From the Island Spirit Team, we hope you enjoy your time in the Cowichan Valley.
All the Island Spirit Legacy Caches are within a 2 steps of the trail, unless otherwise noted. There is no need to bushwack or trample the vegetation.
Yellow Warbler
A small but bright coloured bird, the Yellow Warbler is easily picked out among the other small birds. Males are brighter coloured than females and juveniles and also have some chestnut coloured streaking on their chests. They build nests which are frequently parasitized by the Brown Headed Cowbird. When this happens, the Yellow Warbler will build a new nest directly on top of the old one which can result in nests with up to 6 tiers. These little birds face all the same dangers as other birds including one most don’t. You see, Yellow Warblers are small enough that they can fall victim to an orb weaver spider’s web.
