North Van Public Art #12 - Deep Cove Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Public Art: The time has come to archive this cache. Sorry if you DNFed it. Several factors came into play in our decision - some of the art pieces are no longer in place, the gardens at GZ have been disturbed by visitors (cachers and muggles), and the container keeps disappearing.

Watch for a new Public Art coming to the vicinity in the very near future!

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the North Vancouver Public Art Geocache experience! The Arts Office has recently seen its role expanded to encompass both the City and the District, and we are pleased to be able to show you some wonderful examples of public art that can be found all around us in North Vancouver.

This cache brings you to the quiet little community of Deep Cove. The building complex at the corner of Gallant Avenue and Panorama Drive houses a total of four entities: Seymour Art Gallery, Deep Cove Heritage Society, Deep Cove Cultural Centre, and Deep Cove Shaw Theatre. They share this very interesting and cozy space at the hub of the community, and have given permission for this cache to be here.

You will find these art pieces nearby:
Free Wheeling: Sharon Perkins – 2004
Created from a found object, a wagon wheel, in the Seymour area, the work translates the industrial heritage of the materials in an exploration of form.

Panorama Crossing: Phillip & Kirsty Robbins – 2000
STOP and LOOK to discover some interesting footprints at this whimsical crosswalk. Don’t forget to look up as well, to see banners blowing in an unfelt breeze.
UPDATE: It appears the District has decided to let this piece fade into history.

Who’s Got the Umbrella?: Greg Kawczynski – 1992
This sculpture, made from locally-quarried marble, depicts a pair of windswept faces in conversation. The sculptures' flat upper surface and wry title allude to the effects of local weather.

Please take time to enjoy the art, snap a few photos, post your comments, and don't forget to tell me what you think of these pieces or the cache.

You are encouraged to wander around and enjoy all the art pieces in the area while you are looking for the container, which is a small camoed L&L holding a logbook and some small swag items. The cache can be reached from the pavement so you don't have to disturb any of the landscaping. A wheelchair cacher might need a helping hand. There could be smoking muggles nearby from time to time so be sure to use stealth when searching. If it's really busy you can make use of Panorama Crossing to enjoy a world-famous doughnut or some ice cream!

As always have a great Geocache time and I hope you have a chance to visit the other public art locations around the North Shore.
