This is part of the 'Slight Detour' series of caches placed specifically for the Essex Camping Event 2012. Anyone attending the Camping Event 2012 can claim a joint FTF on the caches in this series.
A certain amount of stealth is required here, hence the additional difficulty rating. The terrain rating reflects the difficulty of the walk to and from the marina. You may loose a boot or get completely stuck in the mud here!
This series is an interesting and varied route in its own right, but if you are walking the ECE (Essex Camping Event 2012) St Peter's Ring, and think the 18 miles may be too far in one go, then this detour gives you more options on the length of walk you could complete.
If you use this detour to complete the eastern part of the St Peter's ring your walk will be approximately 10 miles. If you decide to complete the western loop your walk will be approximately 13 miles. And if you decide to do a figure of 8 walk to take in the whole of St Peter's ring and the Slight Detour route you'll end up doing 23 miles in all!
------------------------------------------------------
This is a Letterbox cache. There is a stamp and ink pad inside the letterbox container which is NOT a trade item. The stamp is meant to remain in the box so that finders can record their visit.
PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THE STAMP & INKPAD AS THIS WILL SPOIL THE VISIT FOR OTHERS.
Inside you will also find a log book and pencil as well as a couple of small swaps. There is room for GCs or small TBs.
Once you've finished stamping and logging, be sure the stamp and ink pad remain in the letterbox container itself and replace it as you would hope to find it.
------------------------------------------------------
If you are only planning on doing the Slight Detour series and do not want to continue on the St Peter's ring, you can get a bus between Tillingham and Bradwell waterside. This is the D4 service but please note there is a limited service on Saturday and no service on Sundays or bank holidays.
I recommend getting the bus to the other end of the series and then walking back to your transport. This way you won't be stranded for too long if you miss the bus or it doesn't turn up.
You can also park at the marina for £1 all day. Please bring a £1 coin to open the barrier. Although not public, there are convienences available at the marina should you need them; you will need to ask for a key from the main office for them.
