Time for CARL4. This year the theme of the event is "unique" and "creative". Let's see how creative we can be with the titles, cache containers and locations. It's all about quality not quantity this time.
June 15-16: Welcome to CARL4, the fourth annual Lethbridge Cache and Relax Lethbridge event hosted by EO-LETH and coordinated by Morningdrifter, Stitch1 and TeamDJM. The event consists of a 24 hour cache-finding marathon culminating with a gathering at the posted coordinates for refueling, story-telling and prize distribution. Check back closer to the date to see if there are any other changes. NO rain dances this year please!
There are three stages to the CARL4 event the HIDES, the HUNT and the GATHERING.
NOTE: This is the “year of the unique cache” – titles, cache containers and locations all make caches interesting. What have you seen elsewhere that you would like to bring to this area.
THE HIDE: hide one or more caches between now and Monday, June 4th. The deadline is to ensure that the reviewers have sufficient time to review and publish all the hides for the event. Hiders are encouraged to place their caches earlier to allow time to solve any issues that may arise. Let’s keep these caches dry.
Every cache listing submitted for CARL4 should include the following:
1) Naming the cache: CARL4 (written without any spaces or dashes) at the end of the title (e.g. Big Hill Mystery CARL4) to facilitate searches by keyword and an accurate list of published caches.
2) In the “short description” mention “This cache has been placed for the CARL4 event. This cache was released to the public on Thursday June 14th. The cache should not be located prior to 6 p.m. Friday June 15. The caches for the CARL4 event are released early so that the geocaching community has an opportunity to plan their routes prior to the event start.”
3) in “reviewer notes” state that the cache is placed for the CARL4 event and should be published the evening of Thursday, June 14th
RULES for CARL4 caches:
- no nanos please!
- only one “thoughtful micro” cache (too small for a pencil) hidden per geocaching account
- puzzle and multi-caches are allowed, but keep them short - solvable and findable within 30-45 minutes
- all hides must be hidden within 40 km of the posted coordinates
- hide caches you would enjoy finding yourself - unique and creative
- all hides should be permanent following the event for everyone to find at their leisure
THE HUNT: At 6:00 pm on Friday June 15th, all CARL4 caches become fair game and the hunt begins. Feel free to find as many or as few caches as you want. During the hunt, please document the time of find in the logbook. This makes things more interesting by informing subsequent finders how close they are on your tail.
NOTE: You are welcome to find any other caches in Lethbridge during the event, but only caches with CARL4 in the title count towards your finds total.
THE GATHERING: The above coordinates are for the gathering on Saturday, June 16. At 6:00 pm, following a hectic (or leisurely) 24 hour marathon of caching the HUNT ends. This year we will gather at the headquarters for “Carbon’s Cache”, a private residence with a big yard! We will be there by 4:00 for the “RELAX”, voting, visiting & story telling. This is a family gathering so no alcohol or dogs please. We have a large grassed area and shaded areas too. Please bring your lawn chairs and a picnic supper for your family. We have a BBQ and fire pit if you want to cook your supper.
As with all events, please post a 'Will Attend' note and indicate the number of people accompanying you.
FYI: We have a big garage for shelter so we are good to go even if it rains. Don't forget the lawn chairs. See you Saturday.
RECOGNITION/PRIZES:
After supper, we will celebrate our successes and share our troubles and some prizes will be awarded. Please notify us if you have some prizes to donate to the event. We also have a couple of “challenge activities” for the evening.
1) Cacher with most CARL4 finds (in the event of a tie, tie-breaker goes to the cacher with the most hides)
2) Best cache prepared and hidden by a someone under 16 (some parental help is ok, but prize goes to the child)
3) Best puzzle or multi cache
4) Best/worst mishap (must recount story at the party)
5) Most unique cache title, cache container & location
6) Most FTFs
Prizes will be awarded at the gathering, so you must be present if you want to claim your prize.
PARTICIPATION:
You are welcome to log the event as 'Attended' if you have participated in at least one stage of CARL4
LASTING EFFECT:
New friendships, new caches in Lethbridge & new ideas for caches.
