Geocache Description:

Two Thousand Twelve is the Year of the Girl
100th year of Girl Scouting

“Come right over! I got something for the girls of Savannah (Georgia) and all America and all the world and we’re going to start it tonight!” Daisy Low announced. She made this historic phone call to her friends and cousins and on March 12, 1912, eighteen girls signed up for Daisy’s program. Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of Girl Scouting, explained to them what the Girl Guides of England were doing. Two patrols were organized. And on that same day, the girls were taught the laws, how to tie knots and some of the requirements for the Tenderfoot badge. She taught the girls fire building and simple outdoor cookery—great novelties for the girls of 1912.

Today, Girl Scouts of the USA has a membership of over 3.2 million girls and adults, a significant growth from its modest beginnings nearly a century ago. In fact, more than 50 million women in the U.S. today are Girl Scout alumnae. Girl Scouts is dedicated to every girl, everywhere. Our mission: Girl Scouts builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place. Our Vision: Girls Scouts strives to be the premier leadership organization for girls and an expert on their growth and development.
