Geocache Description:

Another one in a series of caches highlighting some of the area's history.

Originally this area was known as 'Little Bridge', because of the small crossing of Great North road over the Craghall Burn that once existed here. The bridge is long gone, but the burn, the original boundary between Gosforth and Newcastle, is still visible along the the north edge of Dukes Moor. Most of the stream is underground now, but it pops up in a number of areas between here and South Gosforth before joining the Ouseburn at the Dene.

In the 1920's when the rather grand houses in this area were being constructed, a small semi-circular seated area was set aside, next to the moor, which was often made use of by the many nannies from these affluent 'villas', who would feed their infants here. It didn't take long for the area to become known as 'Titty Bottle Corner, and it's still sometimes known by that name today.

The cache is a small screw top pot, with room for for a couple of swaps/trackables - and fairly apt we think! If you have young kids with you, please be careful by the road. If you're driving, there's limited free parking on the near-by streets.

We plan to have a few more of these 'Bygone' caches soon. For now, check out the other one in the series at the other end of Gosforth:
