Geocache Description:

A small cache on a track unsuitable for motor vehicles or wheelchairs.

This cache is placed on a bridge over the railway which used to link Monktonhall Colliery and Bilston Glen Colliery until they both closed, Bilston Glen in 1989 with Monktonhall being closed in 1987 then re-opening as a private mine until finally closing and being demolished in 1997. I can't remember exactly when the last train used this track but the red light has been shining since at least the early 90's making me wonder who's paying the electricity bill. To see the light, you'll now need to go to the new road from Sherrifhall roundabout to the roundabout near the Cockatoo puband then look along the track in an Easterly direction. To get to the cache, I would recommend parking at the Sherrifhall park and ride and crossing the stile at the Southern end of the car park then walking down the path (kaimes Road) from there, the East end of the path has been blocked off to try to prevent more dumping and there is no safe parking at that end. You could also make a circular walk of it by combining this with my other two caches "Walking the Dog" and "Black Gold Woolmet", including the "Park and Ride" cache by Paul & Elaine. Please replace cache as found and cover it up due to muggle activity.
