Haswell trading cache is at the start of the Haswell to Hart Walkway. The total walk is 9 miles in total on easy, defined footpaths. The cache is at the beginning of this walk.
The Haswell to Hart Walkway runs from Haswell to Hart Station for approx. 9 miles. It follows the former railway line between Haswell and Hartlepool which was built to transport Coal. It was designed by the famous engineer George Stephenson, who built the Rocket, and was opened in 1835 to divert the coal trade towards Hartlepool. The path has an interesting history which represents the diverse range of urban, industrial and rural landscapes in the area.
This path is now part of the National Cycle Route. Haswell was also the Birthplace of Tom Simpson, an iconic cyclist of the 1960’s, known as the greatest cyclist that Great Britain has ever produced. He was the first to wear the yellow-jersey in the 1962 Tour de France.. Tragically, Simpson died during the 1967 Tour de France whilst climbing Mont Ventoux.
The contents of the cache are:
First to Find Key ring, Small highlighter, reflective hedgehog key ring, a dice, a blue bouncy ball, red squidgy face, small dinosaur, karabiner and pin badge. There is also a log book and retractable pencil. Please do not remove pencil!

However, this can be easily accessed by parking at Grid reference 438398,543538 or, this involves a very short walk to the cache. Be aware of muggles as this is a popular dog walking area.
