Geocache Description:

Old Atherton Cemetery was started in the mid 1800's up on the hill. The 'new' Atherton is on the north, of Old Atherton, with no real separation other then the hillside. One of Danville, Illinois' 'famous sons' was laid to rest here, a little NW of this hidden cache.

Bobby Short, born Robert Waltrip Short on Sept. 15, 1924 in Danville, was the 9th of 10 children. A child prodigy, Short began traveling to Chicago and New York to play vaudeville and roadhouses at a young age. Despite his smooth charm and dapper elegance, quintessential cabaret artist, he considered himself a saloon singer. He was considered a master interpreter of the 'Great American Songbook'. In the 1940's and 1950's, Short honed his signature style in clubs in New York, Los Angeles and Paris. In 1968, he landed a gig at the "Cafe Carlyle' at the Carlyle Hotel in New York City, and he played there for nearly four decades. He became a symbol of high-society Manhattan nightlife, winning over a fan base that included royalty, movie stars and politicans. He died of leukemia on March 21, 2005 at the age of 80, just short of his return to the Cafe Carlyle to perform at the 50th anniversary of the club.

Cache contains a log and pencil but not large enough for trinkets.
