Located about 80m above the level of the lake (or at 882m absolute), this cache provides an excellent view of the valley, the rock formations, and the shoreline. On the cliffs you pass at the lakeshore, you can see some monuments to the previous residents of Pavilion lake.
The lake itself is of international scientific interest for it's unique freshwater corals. There had been a team from NASA exploring the underwater environment. You can learn more at the project's website: (visit link)
In Winter, this cache should be rated down to a 4 for difficulty, as it's easy to walk across the frozen lake. In Summer, you will have to bring a boat or a raft to make the crossing, so I have left the terrain difficulty at 5. From the far shore, there is a short, but very steep hike to the cache site. The cache itself is a camo'd 250ml Lock n Lock container.
Beware of the several cliffs and loose rocks in the area.
Congratulations to rajamada for the FTF on March 9, 2012.
