Whickham Wanderer 2 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

Accessible even when the park is closed. This is a quik cache and grab. If you have time visit the park, which is a great asset to Whickham and lovely for children. Please be respectful to residents when parking.

Whickham council purchased Chase Park from Mr Wilkinson, a mineral water manufacturer, in 1937 for £7,000. The park was formally a private estate. The manison house was demolished in 1962.

There are no records of when the mill was built but parish records refer to a mill standing on the site of chase as early as 1567 and belonging to the Lord of the Manor, the Bishop of Durham.

Chase Park is designated as a King George V playing field. It is one of many sites throughout the country that were established as a memorial to the late King Goerge V.

The park is 5.28 hectares (13 Acres)
