Beyond Toms Island Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions
in our disclaimer.
The cache is hidden on Big Bar Beach at Two Rivers Inlet. The parking area and trailhead is the same as The Pirate Cove caches.
Big Bar Beach is a big rocky bar that juts out into Two Rivers Inlet. The easiest way to the cache is to wait for low tide and walk from Toms Island. This is not a walk for everyone, remember you are on the ocean floor, you will encounter mud and seaweed covered rocks.
There is one river crossing between Toms Island and the cache. On the day the cache was placed there was less than a foot of water in the river and it is possible to cross and stay dry with rubber boots on. It is best to plan to arrive at the river crossing one hour before low tide, this will give lots of time to find the cache and to make your way back across the river before the incoming tide makes it impassable.
Do not attempt this cache if the tide is on its way in and do not try a shortcut from Route 915 or you will find yourself at the top of a cliff, a nice view but no way down to the cache.
