The Teddy Bears are hiding out in the Great Wood searching for the Teddy Bear Picnic Basket and included in this group, are the Berenstain Bears.
The Berenstain Bears were created by Stan and Jan Berenstain and the bears made their debut in 1962. Originally there were only three bears, but gradually over the years, the family increased to five bears - Papa Bear, a bluff overenthusiastic carpenter who wore bib overalls and a plaid shirt and Mama Bear a wise housewife and perfectionist dressed in a blue dress with white polka dots. Their children included Small Bear (Brother Bear), Sister bear and Honey Bear.
This family lived in a big treehouse down a sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.
The story line has a basic formula where Papa Bear sets out to instruct Small Bear in some aspect of the art of living and ends up badly the worse for wear. The wise Mama Bear eventualy sets everone straight.
There are over 300 tales with 260 million copies of the books in 23 languages and there have been two TV series. In 2007, the Berenstain Bears became the spokesbears for Prevent Child Abuse.
