All the Teddy Bears are searching in the Great Woods for the Teddy Bear Picnic Basket and included in this group is Andy Panda, a star of animated short films that were released in 1939. Andy, though a very lovable bear, was always getting into trouble or causing it.
The inspiration for this cartoon bear, came when a giant panda cub named Su-Lin, was donated to the Chicago's Brookfield Zoo the previous year, 1938.
Movie shorts of Andy Panda were made from 1939 to 1949.
Andy had a pet dog named Milo, a girl friend named Miranda who was very sophisticated with expensive tastes, and a sidekick named Charlie Chicken.
Besides the movie career, Andy also had a comic book career that ran for many years. Some of these stories were reprinted in the 1990's and in Sweden in 2001.
In Andy's fifth movie short, a character was introduced that became even more popular than Andy -- Woody Woodpecker.
