Binrat's 21 Gun Salute

In celebration of 10 years in caching and his 5000th find, I thought a little milestone cache was in order for the Godfather of Brockville and Area Geocaching. I was trying to think of a place to put this one and decided, why not put it at his second home, so that's what I did.

First though, lets's take a look at the career of Binrat, he started caching in May 22, 2002 with a cache called Driftwood Park (GC1EEE) a cache that's still active today. He found 40 caches in his first year (hey, there weren't that many around then), but gradually added to that number through local and international caching adventures, getting 930 in 2009.

He has been a local ambassador in geocaching and can always be seen offering a hand or advice to the newbie and experienced alike. He was and remains a mentor to me. So in recognition of his service to geocaching and his two significant milestones, I put this cache out for him and for you to enjoy and celebrate.

So where is Binrat's second home, well it's at the Brockville Armoury. For those of you that don't know, he's a proud member of the Brockville Rifles, a Brockville institution since 1796 and a militia battalion that's part of the Royal Canadian Infantry Corp. The battalion motto is Semper Paratus, which means "Always Ready" and this is true of Binrat, always ready to help a fellow cacher and always and I mean this literally, always ready to cache.

So how does one celebrate a milestone for this type of cacher, well a 21 gun salute of course, however, as much as I tried, this old gun wouldn't fire a single shot. So I figured, well, I'll just hide a cache in her. The cache you are looking for is a black camo'd, magnetic, lock n' lock that was placed in this location with permission from the Rifles. That being said, you are on government property when you're here, so please be very respectful of the property and it's historical pieces. You will not need to dismantle or take anything apart to retrieve this cache, you will only need to reach and grab. You may want to sit in the seat and imagine what sights this gun has seen, but please be respectful of this piece of military history.

Again, congrats Binrat on this great achievement and as with all Canadianzombie caches, the idea here is to have fun.

Cheers
