The Texas Spirit Quest
is a series of Caches placed by many individuals, near cemeteries and historic sites in hopes of paying respect to the many pioneer ancestors that have ‘walked’ before us.
There are hundreds of cemeteries in the rural communities across Texas. This series will introduce you to many of them. The cache pages will provide a virtual history tour of the cemeteries, tombstones and local lore.
The Dickerson Cemetery has at least 115 interments that range from 1861 to 2004, although dates are missing for several burials. Members of the Cyphers, Dickerson, Ellison, and Miller families have been laid to rest here, among others. There are also some Usserys, who for some reason were not buried in the Ussery Cemetery down by Luling.
This site should not be confused with the Clearfork Cemetery just a few hundred feet down the road, which abuts a historical church. I contemplated placing a cache there as well, but it appears a local sheriff's deputy might live in the house next door, and I felt he or she might prove to be unamused by random strangers wandering about the grounds. At any rate, as always any refinements to the listed coordinates as provided by cache-seekers are welcomed.
