Geocache Description:

Ever wondered where Singapore's first geocache was? Who planted it and when? You can now visit the place where it all began as this cache is located about 30 metres from the original GZ of the historic first geocache. In the vicinity is Sixth Avenue, where you can go for a meal or drinks afterwards.

Singapore's oldest active geocache is no stranger to most of us, and it is "Hidden beauty spot" (GC2EE7) at Labrador Park. However, the first cache planted predates this cache by about 2 months.

The aptly named "Singapores first" (GC24C8) by gafs was planted on 27 October 2001 at N01° 19.800 E103° 47.790. It was a regular sized cache in a glass jar hidden at the end of a pipeline. After a total of 20 finds in 1.5 years, the cache was muggled and it was archived in June 2003.

I returned to this special site over a decade later to see how much GZ has changed. The pipes where the cache was hidden are still there, but the Downtown Line 2 construction work area was precariously nearby and a footpath and gate for the workers runs just metres from the GZ.

So, I planted this commemorative cache 30 metres down the pipeline, and downsized it to a micro. The area is well hidden from the main road, but still close to the construction site. It should be far away enough from the muggly footpath and gate but stealth is still required when retrieving and replacing the cache. The cache is a gray mint container with a logsheet and some small items. BYOP, and happy hunting.
