How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Get together to clean up some of Kettle Park and Barnes Lookout. It's a great opportunity to make new friends and earn a smiley at the same time.

Date: Sunday 11 March 2012

Time: 10 am until 11.30ish
You are welcome to arrive late or leave early if this suits your family better - just make sure you find daywalk and sign the logbook before you go.

Weather forecast

Place: The western end of Kettle Park, close to Barnes Lookout.
Parking is available up the access road or on Victoria Rd.

We'll put on name labels (so geocachers who haven't been to an event before can put faces to names and usernames) and sign the logbook.

Then we take gloves and a bag and head for the rubbish. Possible areas are marked on the map below.
In geocaching terms, we'll roam from nearly to The Shark Affair, past Taking a Constitutional, Ruby's Rest and Racing this time to the start of A Wherigo Cache.
We will be staying on the landward side of the beach fence because of the erosion problem.

Be aware that there is likely to be broken glass and dog droppings in these areas, and the low-growing trees can be difficult to get under. So, do what you can but don't risk your own safety.

The nearest public toilets are at the St Clair Esplanade and at Marlow Park playground.

Around 11.30ish we'll dump our bags at GZ, take a group photo, swap trackables, eat biscuits and chat before heading home.

Bring:
- Heavy gardening gloves
- Waterbottles - Sunhat and suncream (fingers crossed!)
- Warm and windproof clothing
- Any extra equipment such as a hearth shovel (to cope with broken glass) or a stick with a nail on the end
- Any of your muggle friends who would like to join us are very welcome- wouldn't it be great to have a CITO event as your first cache find!

We'll provide: (courtesy of Keep Dunedin Beautiful)
- Rubbish bags
- Light plastic gloves
- Name labels
- Hand sanitiser
- Soft drinks - Biscuits
