All the maps say it’s there, The Car GPS will tell you to turn there, even the Geocaching Maps will tell that the road is there. So you slow down, put your turn signal on and start to turn…HEY…where’s the dang road?
You are searching for a small container with log, pen and assorted trade goods. This cache is located in the wooded area about 30 feet off the roadway. There is no need to cross the fence line. There is ample off pavement parking on the roadside.
Everything in the world of maps and navigation says that Old Pope Road runs north from Macon Road (Highway 80/22) and that Pope Road runs south from Macon Road. Macon Road is there, Pope Road is there, but all that you will find of Old Pope Road is a locked gate and a grassy path. The ole Squirrel has been prowling up and down this stretch of Macon Road for more than 36 years and Old Pope Road has never intersected with Macon Road in all that time. You would have thought that they could have changed the maps by now…
