In August 2012 the UK Mega Event is coming to Cartmel in Cumbria. This family orientated event at Fell Foot Park on the shores on Windermere is one of a varied series of events supporting this Mega Event. It is hosted by Phil (of PhilPamandRob) supported by other members of the North West Mega Event Team.

All Teddy Bears are invited to come to this event, especially if they are accompanied by their geocaching families! This ever popular family orientated event is being held at the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park on the southern shore of Windermere, where we will be basing ourselves on the large lakeside lawns close to the picnic area (obviously!)
The park has much to offer visitors with rowing boat and kayak hire, and a woodland adventure playground for the kids. Its paths are suitable for those with prams and wheelchairs, and it has baby change facilities for those who need them. There are many lovely walks in the grounds where you can take your geo-dog, but they should remain on their leads at all times. Refreshments are available locally, whilst there is a designated area for those wishing to bring their own disposable BBQ.
As well as picnicking and the usual geo-chat, we are planning a variety of activities to keep everyone entertained. These will include exploring the park (maybe for some geocaches!) as well as assorted games and activities closer to the picnic area.
Getting there :
Fell Foot Park has car parking for approximately 100 cars in two separate car parks. There are tiered ‘pay and display’ charges depending on the length of your visit (£3 for an hour up to £9 for all day), but it is free for National Trust members displaying their badge on their car. For those using cars, the entrance is signposted off the A592, and postcode LA12 8NN should be used for Satnavs.
Entry is free for pedestrians and cyclists (though there is no specific cycle parking area), but please do NOT park on the roadside outside Fell Foot Park and walk in. It is dangerous to do so as the road has bends and is very busy, and the pull off space near the entrance is actually a bus stop. Alternatively the Windermere Ferry can be used to get to Fell Foot Park from Lakeside.
By bus, the Travellers Choice 618 between Barrow and Ambleside stops outside the park entrance, whilst the X35 between Kendal and Barrow stops at Newby Bridge, 1 mile south of the park.
