The Algocape was originally launched in November 1966 with the name Richelieu, a part of the Canada Steamship Lines fleet.
It became a part of the Algoma Central Marine fleet in 1994. The boat is a straight-decker that has been converted to a self-loader.
The Boat is just over 729 feet in length and has a maximum load capacity of 29,950 tons. It is powered by a 6 cylinder, 9,470 horsepower diesel engine.
