This is the fifth, and final, of our Megalith series. You can park over the road on the bad bend. This cache is not as near ther monument as the others in the series, for reasons given below. Many locals will not come here on a Friday evening as strange things have been known to have happened, even in recent times(1968). You can read about them in Glynis Coopers' book 'Foul deeds & suspicious deaths in Guernsey'.(P.98)
Guernsey is extremely rich in old stories and legends concerning witchcraft and devil worship. If a dolmen featured in an old legend or folk story it was nearly always 'The Trepied' at Le Catioroc. Le Catioroc was not the only 'sabbat' in the island but according to the confessions of the witches, every Friday night at Le Catioroc the devil, in the form of a black goat called Baal Berith or Barberie sat on the centre capstone of the dolmen while the witches, warlocks and fairies danced around in worship. Led in their revels by the terrible Heroguiazes (hags), they shouted and sang in chorus as they danced:
