京都府南西部の乙訓郡大山崎町と隣接。桂川・宇治川・木津川が山崎地峡で合流して淀川となる場所にあり、京都盆地から大阪平野へ抜ける交通の要衝として古くから栄えた。大阪市や京都市のベッドタウンとして住宅地開発も進んでいる。

Shimamoto (島本町, Shimamoto-chō?) is a town consisting of the entirety of Mishima District, Osaka, Japan.

As of 2009, the town has an estimated population of 29,003 and a density of 1,730 persons per km². The total area is 16.78 km².

The town is named after the Shimamoto clan of the feudal era, who were famous for their skill in warfare, excellence in the arts, and intelligence. They still exist to this day.

Shimamoto is the location of Suntory's Yamazaki Distillery, the oldest whiskey distillery in Japan.
