Geocache Description:

You're looking for a small metal container, cammo'd, with logbook and swag.

Yes, it's true. They sure don't build things the way they once did.

This hunt will take you to the site of the old Hollister School. The building was constructed in 1922 when the Hollister school district consolidated with Dawson, a nearby rural school. The high school served the community until it disbanded in 1963. The grade school closed five years later.

When World War II started, this was a thriving town of about 200 people. Today, only a handful of residents remain.

With the closing of the elementary school, the building outlived its usefulness. According to local lore, when workers began to raze the building, the front face with its columns refused to fall. They eventually gave up their efforts and for nearly 40 years, this is all that has remained of the school.

As with all geocaching hunts, the cacher acknowledges the inherent risk involved and assumes responsibility for his or her personal safety. There's always the possibility of a falling brick, although even after all these years, the chance that the front wall will fall is pretty remote. This place is home to various critters, some with four legs, some with eight ... some with none, so use appropriate caution.
