The Cache
The cache container is a small clip-box. You will need your own pencil. There is room for small swaps or trackables. Please take care to replace the cache exactly as you find it.
This one is in the Ha-Ha in between the Temple of Friendship and the Chinese House, at the South-east corner of the gardens if you attempt this from within the gardens it will involve a considerable drop into the parkland outside!
I cannot emphasise enough (according the DNFs) that if you are in the gardens trying to enter the Temple of Friendship YOU ARE AT THE WRONG LEVEL!
Much of the Ha-Ha was restored by a team of volunteers in 1993. There's a very interesting write-up by one of the volunteers at Restoring Stowe's Ha-Ha. However there is spalling along various parts of the reconstructed wall. 20 years of British winters will do that to you, if you're a stone wall. Please rest assured this damage is not being caused by cachers, and I have deliberately placed the cache so that there is no possibility of damage to the structure.
You do not need to dismantle any of the structure to retrieve this cache.
Stowe
The new caches have been placed with the kind permission of the National Trust at Stowe. The National Trust took over stewardship of the site in 1989 and has been restoring it ever since. You can find out more about the National Trust's excellent work at the Stowe National Trust Website.
Ground Rules
Stowe is a National Trust property therefore there are limited opening hours. Please do not attempt to gain access when the site is closed. Details of opening times are published on the website.
The caches are all in the parkland and are therefore free to access.
The National Trust charges a small fee of around £2/day for parking at the New Inn (free for NT members if you have your sticker in the car). Parking is also available on the north side at the old entrance. This is currently free. A new car park is being developed at Home Farm on the north side, which will eventually replace the old car park up by the schoool.
In particular please note that the parkland is open from dawn until dusk, so please do not attempt this cache when it's dark.
Please do not park anywhere on the site other than in the designated parking areas.
The total walking distance around all of my caches starting from the Visitor Centre at the New Inn is around 7.5 miles (12km). Please note there are no facilities in the parkland.
