Geocache Description:

Welcome to 'Leap into Lakewood'

I have placed this cache to co-incide with Leap Year 29/02/12 Worldwide Multi-Event (GC38ZZG). Every cacher around the world is being challenged to find as many caches in one day, on 29 February 2012. I wonder if we'll exceed the previous Worldwide Multi-Event numbers?

Did you know, a leap year is otherwise known as an intercalary year?

The problem is that our calendar tells us that there should be 365 days in a year, but the Earth actually takes 365.25 days to orbit the Sun. If this anomaly was not corrected for, after a while we would be marking the Summer Solstice in the middle of Winter! To correct for this anomaly, we add an extra day - 29 February - every four years. Thanks to this, we get the opportunity to sneak in an extra day's caching in 2012.

For the record, this cache is actually an 'egg' from Casper the Cache-Laying Canary (GC2M000). At time of publishing, Casper's Cache was temporarily unavailable due to it being tampered with by adolescent muggles. Hopefully, caroii77 gets it up and going again (and the muggles grow up) so that you can go and find this cache as well.

The cache itself is a pill bottle (or similar) and contains a log and a pencil.
