Geocache Description:

The kids and I have been up here a few times now. This is the way to a very popular quartz crystal hunting area. Amethyst crystals and cube pyrite can also be found there.

It is a bit over a quarter mile walk up to the cache from parking and two-thirds of a mile from the trailhead for crystal hunting. When I hid the cache, the road up to it was driveable, but now boulders block the way, along with drainage ditches, but it's an easy walk. I have also included trailhead coordinates to the base of the very steep hillside where people crystal hunt. There is a wrecked truck down a steep ravine opposite of the cache, but I resisted hiding one there due to the terrain. If you choose to crystal hunt, it is all up from the beginning of the trailhead. I am not sure what to think of all of the mammoth gopher holes people have dug, but it is what it is. We found most of our crystals without digging at all and just searching the tailings. I would give the rockhounding hillside a 4 terrain. No cliffs, just very steep and slippery. While the Forest Service roads to parking are great, I bet reaching the cache during the winter could be "interesting" due to snow.
