Please join us for the Spring 2012 Dr. James R. Rich WMA Trail Mix. There will be plenty of fun for those of you cachers who like to hike in the wilderness and enjoy cedar trees (you know who you are). We hope to have over 60 permanent caches placed in this WMA before the event and will add additional ones as time permits. There will be a drawing for some giveaways, as well as a few breakfast items. We will have water, but please bring your own beverages, as well as lunch if you are planning on spending the day on the trails.

The Dr. James R. Rich WMA lies just north of Kleber WMA and is 1,704 acres in size. For those of you who are Kentucky WMA history buffs, it is named after the long time Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife director James R. Rich. Owen County has a high concentration of deer, turkey and squirrel. The habitat is mostly forested. It contains steep hillsides, ridgetop and floodplains with a combination of woods, brush and grasslands. It can be accessed by KY 227, KY 1474 and Red Oak Road.

We have had several requests to have the custom trail mix mints at this event like we did at the Kleber Trail Mix so we hope to have them here.

Event Date: Saturday, March 31, 2012

9:00 a.m. Meet in parking lot of WMA (coords listed for the event are the parking coords) to sign event log and meet fellow adventurous cachers.

Please see attached map listed as Related Page. Most caches aren’t located far off the trails.

Be sure to wear bright orange for visibility as this is a WMA. Note: Youth turkey season runs April 2-3 and adult turkey season runs April 16-May 8th. Please try not to cache during these times as it may be unsafe.

We look forward to seeing you at the event (and so do the cedar trees)!
