This cache, a tablock box, is hidden close to a piece of sculpture on the Tír Sáile sculpture trail. These were put in place in 1993 and this particular one is called ‘Tearmon na Gaoithe’ or Sanctuary of the Winds by Dublin artist Alan Counihan, who describes it as follows.
‘This is a vernacular sculpture born of its environment. The stone, quarried and thrown up by the waves, has been laid so as to form a shelter, a sanctuary, a place near the pulse of the tide, the breath of the winds. It belongs only here.’
To get to the cache location most likely from Killala, take the road to Ballycastle and after just over 4kms you will cross a long narrow bridge at Palmerstown, go straight at this junction following the signs to Kilcummen pier. Then make your way to this Junction at N54° 16.748 W009° 12.968 from this crossroads go north for about 1km to the end of the road which has a poor surface and a fine collection of potholes. Leave your car or whatever here and then walk along the shoreline for just over 300m. Take care of near the cliff especially if its windy of course.
Please re-hide the container exactly as you found it, thanks.
