A Leap Year or Intercalary Year contains one additional day in order to keep the calendar year synchronized with the solar year. Because Earth's orbit around the Sun is not exactly 365 days, a calendar with 365 days in every year would eventually drift with respect to the events it is supposed to track, such as religious holidays or the start and end of seasons. By inserting or intercalating an additional day every 4 years on February 29, the Gregorian calendar is kept synchronized with Earth's solar year.
I was searching for a Leap Year cache hidden on February 29 2004 or 2008 to find on February 29 2012, and the closest two were ~ 40 to 70 km away from Guelph. Since this is a rare "Hidden" date, I decided to hide one myself on February 29 2012!

If you follow the quickest trail to GZ, you'll Leap a creek. This is easy and fun when the water level is low and big rocks are exposed, much less so when the creek is full. I like to visit here in the summer to cool off and enjoy listening to the small rapids. There is an alternative trail through the cedar forest that does not require Leaping any water. Watch out for canine landmines and strolling muggles either way!
Container is a small camoed peanut butter jar, wired to the tree. Please DO NOT unhook the cache. The lid has a handy wire loop on it so you can hook it on a nearby branch while signing the log. Please put trade items in the baggie so they don't end up in the stream. Bring A Pen.
Note: Cache rating used to be 3/4. The new container is easier to spot so I've revised the rating accordingly. Changed August 22 2012; if you used the old rating for a Challenge cache before that date you can claim it.
