This is the one mile point from the Deukmejian Park parking lot. Awesome panorama views up the Crescenta View Trail. Sunset from up here is incredible. Continue up to Mt. Lukens--8.77 miles Roundtrip from the parking lot to the summit. Or make this a loop and return down the Rim of the Valley trail after reaching the top.
The name says it all. You'll round a bend and see a small grove of oak trees that didn't burn in the Station fire and a switchback in the middle of them. The trail to here is in good shape, with only a few spots where you need to watch your step a bit.
Most of this hike is in the direct sun though so on hot days, bring plenty of water and a hat. In the mountains, you could encounter poison oak, ticks, coyotes, rattlesnakes, poison oak, or mountain lions. Be aware of your surroundings and watch your step.
