Geocache Description:

EVENT WILL NOW BE HELD IN PARKING AREA 1!!! So, you got a GPS receiver for the holidays and aren't sure what to do with it. Or, you've heard about geocaching, but you're not sure it's for you.

This short, free class will provide a brief overview of the game, including how to find and hide caches. The geocaching code of conduct will be discussed. Finally, setting up an account on geocaching.com and using the site will be covered.

After the class session, the group will split up and find a few caches located within FDR State Park. If you have a handheld GPSr, bring it with you. If you don't have one, we'll have a few units available for loan.

The class will be held on Saturday, May 5 beginning at 12:30 PM at the pavilion adjacent to parking lot 3 at FDR State Park in Yorktown.

This event is being held in conjunction with I Love My Park Day, which is a statewide effort to improve and enhance New York's parks and historical sites and bring visibility to the entire park system and its needs. You can read more about I Love My Park Day here.

All are welcome. We hope to have plenty of beginners looking to learn more, but we will also have experienced catchers willing to team up with new folks to help and share their experiences.

The event is kid-friendly; geocaching is an activity for the entire family! Spread the word amongst your family, friends, and co-workers. Come and meet other geocachers -- and log a smiley just for attending!

Hope to see you there!
