NOTE (8/18/12): I discovered this cache missing 8/17 and disabled it. However, after exchanging emails with Candykins who found it last, I think it might still be there but out of its intended location and placed in sight higher up in the tree at GZ. She wrote "standing just downhill of the tree I looked almost eye level at the center portion - little more than 5 ft. high - and saw the bison tube." I am now re-enabling the cache hoping others will use this info and find the cache, perhaps in the next 8 days while I am on travel, so I know whether or not I need to design a replacement. Please give it a hunt and let me know. Thanks!
We are continuing to populate our neighborhood (the Hollywood Riviera) with geocaches, and as of St. Patrick's Day 2012, we have built up a 16-cache (17 now) power series along this 2-mile trail.. Easy access to the grove from hiking trail, but it might be a little dark and trashy in there. CITO if you can.
The best parking for this cache (or to hike the trail from here) is at the alternate eastern trailhead (N 33° 47.914 W 118° 21.510) on Via Nivel, which is the 2nd right turn continuing up Via Valmonte from the Torrance/PVE border. Parking allowed only on south side of Via Nivel. Pick up the trail on the north side of the street and continue down the asphalt trail about 150 yards where you come to a fork in the trail. The right fork goes east to "St. Hart's 'Hood: Mirlo Gate Lodge Tower" (about 300 yards), and the left fork takes you to "St. Hart's 'Hood: Unsacred Grove" about 100 yards up and continues west for the complete 2-mile trail between Torrance and PVE to PV Blvd.
This is not a muggle-free area, with occasional fellow hikers who may or may notice. And, it may be a hang-out for goofing-off locals. So behave non-suspiciously in the grove, or try later if occupied. (We have more caches on this trail in both directions, most to the west, to give you something to do while waiting out muggles.)
Log-only bison tube; bring your own writing utensil. Please try to replace the cache in its concealment as you find it.
