Geocache Description:

Overview: What, a castle in PV? Only 300 square feet? Cache is across Via Valmonte from this PV landmark, at the eastern end of the trail bordering the Hollywood Riviera & PVE.

Kudos to GWRoss for FTF (5:52am on publication day !)
The "Little Castle"
Mirlo Gate Lodge Tower plaque

We are continuing to populate our neighborhood (the Hollywood Riviera) with geocaches, and as of St. Patrick's Day 2012, we have built up a 16-cache power series along this 2-mile trail that starts here and goes almost to the ocean. (Whoops, now it's 17, not 16.) The trail starts across the street from this little surprise unknown to most people. Be very cautious walking along or crossing Via Valmonte to read the plaque as there is no sidewalk here and cars sometimes zoom around the curves.

The best, safest parking for this cache (or to hike the trail from here) is at the alternate eastern trailhead (N 33° 47.914 W 118° 21.510) on Via Nivel, which is the 2nd right turn continuing up Via Valmonte from the castle. Parking allowed only on south side of Via Nivel. Pick up the trail on the north side of the street and continue down the asphalt trail about 150 yards where you come to a fork in the trail. The right fork goes east to this cache (about 300 yards), and the left fork takes you to "St. Hart's 'Hood: Solano Canyon" about 100 yards up and continues west for the complete 2-mile trail between Torrance and PVE to PV Blvd. Alternatively, there is parking closer to this cache at N 33° 47.956 W 118° 21.342, on the hairpin turn about 100 yards north (downhill) on Via Valmonte; this parking is on the correct side of the street and offers a nice little trail right to the cache, but there is only room for one (maybe 2 cars) there and pulling out might involve tricky traffic conditions around the curves. .

Cache is fairly small, so bring your own writing utensil. There could be room for small trackables. Please replace the container totally out of sight (camo'd as described in Hint), whether or not you found it that way. Be stealthy as muggles could surprise you any time.
