Being Canadian we have all read the poem by Robert Service with the famous character of Sam McGee. Do you remember Sam McGee's fate in the poem? "The northern lights have seen queer sights/But the queerest they ever did see,/Was the night on the marge of Lake LaBarge/I cremated Sam McGee." Now that is the story we all know, but the real story of Sam McGee does not leave him cremated on the marge of Lake LeBarge .
Robert Service and Sam McGee were both in the Klondike at the same time. Robert Service worked in the Bank of Commerce in Dawson Creek, and Sam was one of his customers. Robert Service Borrowed Sam's name for the famous poem. The Cremation of Sam McGee."Sam McGee just rhymes with Tennessee, and he is buried in,yes,Beiseker Leveland Cemetery! Why don't you check out the gravestone yourself?
