Levity aside, the first time I drove up Cloverdale I thought it was one of the prettiest valleys I've ever seen. In the Spring it is a lush green and speckled with wildflowers.
To the immediate West of the cache is a gate to lands preserved by Peninsula Open Space Trust - long used for range land is has erosion problems, including landslides, due to cattle grazing hillsides bare and terracing by their passage, which destroys fragile top soil, setting the stage for slides.
The land is now held in trust as a preserve. No hiking trails, no camp grounds, just land recovering from human use.
Take some time to read the sign beyond the gate. The cache, placed on Leap Day 2012, is across the road, which usually has pretty light traffic. Butano State Park is just a half mile up the road.
