Geocache Description:

A traditional micro-cache located at Red Rocks Park. Container is a bison tube. Parking is available. Bring your own writing utensil. Park is open from 5:00am to 11:00pm.

Rattlesnakes prefer dry areas with moderate vegetation coverage and tend to occupy rocky outcroppings as den sites. Typically active during the day in cooler weather and at night during hot weather, rattlesnakes have a wide array of prey, preferring a diet of small mammals such as ground squirrels, mice, rats, small rabbits and prairie dogs. Adults have a triangular head, blunt nose, narrow neck, and stout body; they range in length from 15 to 60 inches. Western rattlesnakes are lightly colored in hues of brown with patches of dark brown distributed in a dorsal pattern. A color band may be seen at the back of the eye. This species is equipped with powerful venom and will defend themselves if threatened or injured. Rattlesnakes will rapidly vibrate their tails, producing a unique rasping sound to warn intruders. To help avoiding rattlesnakes, stick to marked trails and keep from placing your hands or feet into rock piles, under large bushes, or moving sticks or logs.

Please be sure to return the container to its hiding location - this is in a high foot traffic area and will be easily discovered if not hidden properly.
