Zaklad se nahaja v bližini župnijske cerkve sv. Petra in Pavla.
Mesto Zagorje leži v osrčju Slovenije in je dokaj raztegnjeno mestno naselju na sotočju rečice Medija in potoka Kotredež. V pisnem viru je prvič kot Sagor oziroma Sagur omenjeno v seznamu papeške desetine oglejskega patriarhata iz leta 1296, ki jo danes hranijo v Vatikanu. Druga imena, ki označujejo Zagorje, so: Zaegor, Sager, Seger, Cagoer. Zagorje se je začelo gospodarsko razvijati po letu 1755, ko so tam odkrili ležišče premoga. Prvi je rudnik leta 1795 odprl belgijski industrijalec Leopold Ruard, ki je kopal premog za potrebe svojih plavžev. Leta 1880 so se zagorski rudniki pridružili Trboveljski premogokopni družbi. Njegov največji porabnik je postala v drugi polovici 19. stoletja železnica. Poleg rudnika so tam nastali tudi steklarski obrati, cinkarna in separacija premoga. Danes je zagorski rudnik v zapiranju. K temu so pripomogle visoke ekološke zahteve, visoki stroški pridobivanja premoga in zmanjševanje obsega industrijske proizvodnje.

The city Zagorje ob Savi lies at the heart of Slovenia is quite stretched urban town at the confluence of the river Medija and Kotredež. The name of town was first written as Sagor or Sagur mentioned in the papal tithe list of the Patriarchate of Aquileia in 1296, now kept in the Vatican. Other names which indicate Zagorje, are: Zaegor, Sager, Seger, Cagoer. Zagorje began economic development since 1755, when the coal bed was discovered. The first mine was opened in 1795, the Belgian industrialist Leopold Ruard who dug coal for its furnaces. In 1880 they joined Trbovlje coal mining company. It has become the largest consumer in the second half of the 19th century railway. In addition to the mine, there arise a glass plants Cinkarna and separation of coal. Today Zagorje mine is in closure. This was aided by high ecological requirements, high cost of coal extraction and reduction of industrial production.
