Geocache Description:

This was once the location of Michael Power St. Joseph’s High School (MPSJ) affectionately called “Power”. In 1993, the school moved to another location and this site was sold to developers who (obviously) put condos on the land.

For the official story and the history of the school, see Wikipedia (visit link)

I was a student here from 1986 – 1991. Most of what remains of this campus is in the minds of the alumni and good old fashioned yearbooks.

The school was a campus of several buildings:

Michael Power (“Power”) – This building stood near this cache and was accessible from Dundas Street and via the road that is likely Michael Power Place. There was a gym here, a cafeteria and the main office.

St. Joseph’s (“St. Joe’s”) – The main driveway was off of Bloor Street and it was just a bit further down the hill if you came in from Dundas Street. Best thing about St. Joes was the cafeteria. I fondly remember getting the best warm oatmeal cookies here after 2nd period.

Centre Portable (“Centre”) – This was intended to be a temporary building that turned into a permanent one long before I arrived. It was long, shaped like a ‘t’ and was home to “Centre Caf”, an office, a library and was the most desirable location for lockers in the whole school.

South Portable (“South”) – Aptly named and just a few steps south of Centre. This is where the Science and Music classrooms were located.

North Portable (“North”) – North was home to the Geography Department and was the black sheep of the whole building scheme. No one ever wanted to be in North. It would have been just west of this cache.

There was one last building… a portable gymnasium called Gym C. It was really cold in the winter and was in the corner of the athletic field. I’d never seen a portable gym before, but there it was.

I miss being able to see my high school and I always talk about it whenever we pass this location.

If you were a student at this campus or remember Power here, please share some of your memories in the logs.

TL;DR - My old high school was located here and now it's gone. Enjoy the cache & BYOP
