Geocache Description:

Geocachers from far and wide are invited to join the Kinzua Cachers group either camping for the entire weekend or just showing up for the 1K Picnic on Saturday from 5:00 - 8:00 PM

This event will be held at the Whispering Winds Campground Pavilion located just off U.S. Route 6 near Sheffield, PA in the heart of the beautiful Allegheny National Forest. The 1K Picnic will be a pot luck supper from 5:00- 8:00 PM where we will furnish grilled hot dogs and burgers and rely on those in attendance to provide a dish to pass for the enjoymentof all. The picnic event will include a travel bug exchange, socializing, and a celebration of caching milestones for anyone that you would care to honor with a golden ammo can or other keepsake.

Everyone is welcome to come for the picnic only or for the entire weekend if you would like to camp with other geocachers. Several members of the Kinzua Cachers are already committed to coming for the weekend and that means we will have night caching and a campfire with lots of geo-storytelling for Friday and Saturday night.

A pancake and sausage breakfast will be provided by the campground host on Sunday morning to all campers for a modest fee of $3.00 per person age 12 and over and $1.50 for those under age 12.

There will be plenty of caches in the area to occupy your time for the entire weekend if you can swing it, but whether you want to come for the weekend or just want to attend the picnic you are welcome.

If you have a cacher that you want to honor for a milestone, please let us know and we will add their name to the list as we get closer to the event. Also feel free to post a note with your Will attend log to let us know what you will be bringing to the pot luck supper to help us plan the meal. Our campground host has already volunteered to provide paper plates, cups, plastic tableware, and napkins.

I almost forgot to mention that there is free WiFi service in the campground, so you will be able to research caches and log your finds right from the campground.

Geocachers should make their Camping Reservations directly through the campground. Their website is shown in the related webpage spot. The campground has a limited number of campsites, so we would recommend making reservations early if you want to be on site at the event. Overflow camping would also be available at Chapman State Park near Clarendon, PA.

Please Note: We are happy to acknowledge geocacher milestone awards at any level. This is how it works. Whoever wishes to recognize one of their geocaching friends or family will nominate someone, provide the award such as a milestone item or geoachievement coin or ammo can, and present it to their award winner before dinner. If it is a golden ammo can, put a log book in it and maybe a trinket or two and we will display it on a table after you present it to the award winner. Then during the event anyone else can drop swag or sig items into the ammo can and sign their congratulations into the logbook for your honoree. Then the ammo can goes home with your award winner as a permanent reminder of their achievement and everyone who signed the logbook gets to log a temporary cache find at the event.
