Up, up and away Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Boomshanka: I came up to check this one today and sure enough, GZ has been flattened and a new hedge planted. I considered replacing further away, but it's barren, so time for this one to be archived. My first ever cache placement. Many thanks for all the visits, logs and FPs.

Geocache Description:

This cache is situated in beautiful Hampshire downland. What makes it somewhat unusual is that you can reach it by foot, mountain bike, horse or even light aircraft!

Nestled in the fantastic countryside around the cache is Farley Farm airstrip, which occasionally has visiting light aircraft. You can sometimes also see model aircraft flying here.

There are two routes to the cache. The shorter route (around ½ mile) involves parking at The Church of St. John in Farley Chamberlayne (51° 2.685'N, 001° 26.100'W) which is a wonderful Norman church. On foot, follow the road North through Farley Farm and onwards to the GZ.

The longer route (around 1.5 miles) starts at the car park at Farley Mount (N 51° 03.695 W 001° 25.212). Take the path (which is part of the Clarendon Way) up the hill and take in the stunning 360 degree views at the horse monument (visit link) Continue on to appreciate the breathtaking views from Frank Crawford’s seat (N 51° 03.649 W 001° 25.667) and then you will leave the Clarendon Way by taking the 'Restricted Byeway' path to the left (through the gate blocking vehicle access which is the reason for it being labelled 'restricted'). Here you will be walking alongside some beautiful Beech coppice within Parnholt Wood, underneath which is a carpet of bluebells in the Spring. Stay on the path (which can be very muddy and rutted at times) until you arrive at a clear crossroads. Wildlife abounds on this route including deer and buzzards. The sound of the Skylark is never far away.

Either way in, the paths can be rutted and muddy (with large puddles).

The GZ is within the bounds of the path. Do not loiter underneath the runway centreline in case of approaching aircraft. The cache is not in the hedge as it is far too prickly! You are looking for a 35mm film canister. There is a log inside but no room for a pen or any goodies/TBs.

*** Congratulations to Mousytrap for the FTF! ***
