Geocache Description:

The second in a short series looking at some of New Zealand’s native fish. You can do each as a traditional cache, or if you want to complete the final, please take note of the colour and item of the plastic fishing-related item in each cache, the series number and the fish mentioned, but please return item to cache container for the next person.
The final is Fishing Fun Final

The colour you want from this cache is PURPLE FISH
This cache has been muggled and the fishing-related item has gone. Please take note of what is on the top of the log so you can complete the final thanks.

Please don't leave trackables in this cache in case they go missing, thanks.

The earthquakes Christchurch has suffered from since 2010 onwards have also affected the waterways of the area, destroying habitat needed for our native fish. Each cache will take you to a waterway, or a water-themed street. The series was released into the wild during New Zealand Sea Week 2012.

Common Smelt
These are small fish that shimmer and live in large shoals in estuaries and lowland rivers, although they spend most of their lives at sea. Some return to the waterways when they are young in spring. If whitebaiters catch these, they call them cucumber fish because they smell really strongly of fresh cucumbers. Most of these fish return to our estuaries when they are adults measuring about 10cm. If you are lucky you might even see one in a lake.

You are looking for a screwtop container. Please bring your own pen. Please ensure cache is replaced so it is secure as it's now been muggled five times, thanks
