Geocache Description:

Micro located near historic Eagle from Penn Station.

When the original Penn Station was demolished in 1963 to make room for the current Madison Square Garden (home of "Linsanity") the historic eagles from the outside of the building were given to various groups throughout the East Coast.

Mr. Samuel A Goldberg, along with his Latin class at Hicksville High School, dedicated the eagle on May 15, 1965. On May 15, 1990 they had a 25th anniversary ceremony.

I remember the annual "washing of the eagle" event while attending Hicksville High School. Over the years it suffered from the weather and its beak was broken.

Through the efforts of several local individuals, community groups and Nassau County officials, the fully restored Hicksville eagle was revealed on Octobter 28,2010 as the Hicksville Historical Society held a dedication ceremony for the rare bird.
