SPC Haley Is Our Hero Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

chjbundr: I really hated removing this cache, but since I am moving away, it has to go, but I will find a nice place in our new area and restore this cache for future finders to locate. Thanks to all the finders and the special memories included by some.

Geocache Description:

Cache is placed in honor of my nephew, an Army Senior Medic and Wounded Warrior. He was injured by an IED on 28 Sep 2011 while on patrol near his base SP/COP Mushan outside of Panjwai, Afghanistan.

This cache is filled with several things Army, in deference to the branch of the military in which my nephew serves. Feel free to take and exchange Army related swag, but all types are certainly welcome. For any finders who are active or former soldiers: if you think this cache leaves a lot to be desired in the Army category, just remember, I am a Navy veteran, and well, I did what I could. I will take suggestions on improvements.

Warning: There are several sentries on cache guardian duty at close proximity to the cache GZ, however, they have orders to treat anyone possessing a GPS as a friendly and are to grant them safe passage and access to the cache.

I think this spot is fairly scenic and peaceful, so enjoy the view and even stay a while if you feel like it. About 100 feet east of the cache is a downed tree branch that can serve as an impromptu bench if anyone wants to take a break and sit a spell once the hunt is over.

This cache is located in the Harwood's Mill Park/Newport News Waterworks land, so it is only available during the posted hours of sunrise to sunset. Parking is available at the Harwood's Mill Park vehicle lot.

Additional info: The Newport News P&R representative reported to me that this area was full of ticks. Not sure this is a surprise to anyone, but dress and spray down appropriately.

Newport News Parks and Recreation Permit #0211.

Congratulations to Johnny23 and CacheMartyr of Team Shamus for FTF!
