Here we are back in the Harbour area again, this time we are near the 'old' Wick Lifeboat shed.
Further along the bottom road of the harbour and heading towards the 'old' Lifeboat Shed.
With the introduction of modern lifeboats it was no longer practical to house the Wick Lifeboat in the traditional building on the south shore of Wick Bay. For some years now the Lifeboat has been moored in Wick Harbour in readiness for emergency calls.
The redundant Lifeboat Building was acquired from the RNLI by The Wick Society and has become the winter home of the Isabella Fortuna. This provides a sheltered environment for repairs and restoration and has the necessary workshop facilities for these tasks.
Thomas Telford, engineering genius, Thomas Stevenson, father of Robert Louis, who lived in Harbour Terrace, and local man James Bremner, whose distinctive "Round House" overlooks the Inner Basin, and whose memorial stands above the Old Lifeboat shed,(look above you!! ) were all eminent civil engineers who built the harbour, largely as you see it today.
If you wish to go up above to see the memorial mentioned there is a small parking area at these coordinates N058 26.167 W003 04.747
It is back up to the junction and take a sharp left up the hill, straight over the road.
This cache has a log book and pencil but may require pen and tweezers.
