Geocache Description:

This cache (my first ever!) is just off a well marked concrete road. However the incline is quite steep in places and the road is exposed to the elements so be prepared. The GZ itself is not obvious from the path but can actually be seen for miles around.

The Hong Kong Regiment was disbanded in the run up to the 1997 handover when Hong Kong reverted to Chinese rule. At the time virtually all symbols of British rule were taken down. It is therefore surprising to find this huge concrete emblem embedded into the hillside overlooking Gallipoli Lines; a once British Army camp now occupied by the PLA. In recent years it has even been repaired and repainted, no doubt by ex-members of the regiment.

There are a number paths which lead to the GZ but perhaps the most straightforward way would be to head to waypoint 22°31'10.63"N; 114° 9'40.22"E from the Ping Che Road and find the start of the old army road which takes you up the hill.

The road itself was built by the British Army probably back in the 1960s and is still in remarkably good condition to this day.

On clear days there are great views to be had of Shenzhen to the north and the Northern New Territories to the south. To my knowledge there are no other caches in the immediate area so hope this brings you to a new place.

Note if you come from the Man Kam To direction instead of Ping Che you might need to make a detour to reach this cache as there is a firing range nearby and part of the road is out of bounds when the red warning flags are displayed.
