Geocache Description:

Access to area is by taking paved roadway next to gas station that goes under the bridge. Plenty of parking and easy walk to GZ

The locks opened in 1841 and operated until the late 1920's until it became inoperable. Then in the 1960's the lock was repaired and is still operable today. The locks are operated by the Ohio State Parks and can be used by boaters for a fee. There are 11 locks and 10 dams on the Muskingham. This helped connect the Ohio River at Marietta to Lake Erie. Check out the website to learn more about the Muskinham River Lock System.
Interesting history here about Old Jane, one of the few lady river pilots. Also read about Captain Isaac Newton Hook, another river pilot that spent a lot of his life running the Muskingham River.
Permission granted by Mike Jarvis to place this cache.
