The cache is not at the above coordinates.
Instead, these coordinates will take you to the de-rigging and washdown facilities at the Dawesville Channel Marina.
Here, boat owners can wash the salty water off of their boats and trailers, flush their engines with fresh water, and unload their eskies and tackle boxes. Before they leave the marina, they must also re-affix their tail lights and check that they are working.
Also at this location are a couple of markers embedded in the concrete slab, DM1 and DM2.
These are GPS Validation Markers and are provided by the Department of Transport to assist the WA boating community to check the accuracy of their GPS devices. The sign near DM1 gives the exact coordinates for both markers.
As we are only too aware, the muggle boaties aren’t the only people out there who can make use of these markers. We and our fellow geocachers can also use them to check out how accurate our GPS’s are.
Do a quick check now and see how accurate yours is.
Mine was pretty spot on, how about yours?
Now, back to the real reason you are here - to earn your smiley face for this cache!
The cache can be found at S32 AB.CDE & E115 FG. HIJ
To work out the South coordinates:
DM1 Longtitude – DM1 Latitude – 5065870
To work out the East coordinates:
DM2 Longtitude – DM2 Latitude + 3236312
If all has gone to plan, you should now have the correct coordinates for the cache.
But just to make sure your aren't off on a wild goose chase, you might like to use the checksum:
A + B + C + D + E + F + G + H + I + J = 45
GZ is quite a pleasant walk from where you are now. It is a good way to work up an appetite, especially for seafood. The nearby restaurant serves really wicked chilli mussels, and their pastries and gateaux are to die for too.
Keep on Caching!!
FTF Congratulations Chwiliwr
PS Apparently there are other GPS Validation Markers around. Their locations can be found by visiting this webpage: www.transport.wa.gov.au/gpscoordinates
